On February 26, the Federal, state and territory governments announced that they are working to implement a new national approach to drought programs from 1 July 2014. The new approach, which will replace the existing Exceptional Circumstances arrangements, will help farmers prepare for and manage the effects of drought and other challenges, rather than waiting until they are in crisis to offer assistance, as well as supporting viable farms during prolonged or severe droughts.
